Our present farming operations began in 1994 in western Chatham County.  Through the years we have purchased our breeding stock at purebred angus sales, mostly in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and at the National Western Stock Show in Denver, Colorado.  Presently we have approximately 100 head of angus and angus influenced cattle in the Siler City area.  Our cattle are on grass pastures year round and are supplemented as needed when pastures are not meeting requirements for growth and maintenance.

Day-to-day farming operations are primarily the responsibility of myself, Dr. Richard D. Kirkman and my sons Reid and Ross. In addition to this operation, I own and operate Carolina Equine and Food Animal Mobile Veterinary Service.  This business assists clients with their large animal veterinary needs in central North Carolina.

Since 1994 my family has been raising angus cattle.  I am involved with and a member of the North Carolina Angus Association and a member of the American Angus Association.  I am a member of the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association, the Academy of Veterinary Consultants, and the American Association of Bovine Practitioners.  Working with a varied clientele in the cattle business allows me to take advantage of good practices and avoid problems.  We are active members of the First United Methodist Church of Siler City.

Our focus is on angus cattle that provide carcass qualities both as breeding animals and to our freezer meat customers.  My focus is on improving our genetic base through the use of artificial insemination and embryo transfer.  This allows access to some of the finest genetics available.

Our farm consists of  land on Highway 64 west of Siler City and rented pasture land near Siler City.  Most of our pastures are native fescue, but we are in the process of replacing some fescue with Pennington’s Max Q fescue and Kopa II clover from Evergreen Seed.  In late spring we routinely drill 10 to 15 acres of summer sudan grass for summer pasture.
